Bylakuppe in Kodagu of state Karnataka is one of the oldest Tibetan settlements in India.This was the first refugee settlement established in 1961. During the 1950s, thanks to the worsened relation between Dalai Lama and the Chinese authorities over Tibet, he fled to India seeking political asylum.
